How To Take Better Travel Photos

This article isn’t about taking selfies with Eiffel Tower or Taj Mahal in the background. Instead, we focus on some of the key points that you’ll need to know in order to take better photos the next time you are abroad. So, grab your camera and let’s head out on an adventure!

People + Landscapes = GOOD
Landscape photography offers wild opportunities of catching some really awe-inspiring moments on your memory card. Incorporating people on the same landscape photos might make them even better! One of the reasons this works great results from the fact that having a person or a group of people on the photo, allows the viewer better to imagine themselves standing in the middle of a dramatic mountain range sunset or a feverishly yellow field of sunflowers.

Evening + No Tripod = BAD
Even many of the modern digital cameras, heck, even mobile phones can take pretty good photos in the dim evening light. If you have a cheaper camera and don’t want to watch blurry images of something later, then do invest in a tripod for taking pictures in a less than stellar light.

Animals = GOOD
It’s always a great idea to get some animals on your travel photos. But beware of shady photo opportunities offered by locals in some parts of the world, for example, taking pictures of lions that look oh-so-friendly and want to put their head on your lap for a wonderful selfie. Don’t support this! These animals have highly likely been drugged. Just try to be creative and find shots of real wildlife without putting yourself or the animals in any danger.

No Creativity = BAD
Do we really need another picture of someone standing in front of the Tower Of London? Well, maybe, if it’s your kids’ first time in London. Still, try to be creative because this will add another layer to the pictures when viewing them later. Find new angles, experiment with light, and think outside the box. An otherwise dull snap might become a dinner party favourite for years to come!
