Oia, Santorini

Santorini
Santorini belongs to the Cyclades island group and it is very famous among honeymooners or just couples looking for a romantic scenery. Photographers love the island too as it boasts a number of dramatic views and epic sunsets. Many people are put off by the idea that Santorini might be thoroughly touristic and with an artificially created atmosphere. While it’s true that many people visit the island each year, there are definitely many ‘off the beaten path’ places to see and experience. And ultimately the big attractions have earned their popularity for a reason.

Mykonos
Similarly to Santorini, Mykonos is part of the Cyclades and is situated in the Aegean Sea. Now, Mykonos is truly a cosmopolitan and crowded destination, at least when the high season is in full swing. This is one of the more expensive and party-oriented Greek islands. Still, the island isn’t only about loud dance clubs and British pubs. One can get lost in picturesque parts of the capital, discover the profuse amount of beaches and visit the small uninhabited island called Delos (UNESCO world heritage area).

Crete
The largest Greek island, Crete, has been regarded as one of the most charming islands around. Homer has been credited as having said, ‘along the wine-dark sea, by water ringed, there lies a land both fair and fertile’. Arguably the southernmost city in Europe called Ierapetra, stunning landscapes, historical monasteries, beautiful and diverse beaches & accessible caves are just some of the possible destinations and activities once you arrive to the famed island.

Rhodes
One of the most fertile Greek islands is part of the Dodecanese group. Rhodes, also known as the ‘Island of Roses’ for its abundance of rock-rose, is known for its combination of a variety of beaches, beautiful nature and medieval old town. Also, history buffs are welcome to discover many archeological sites situated on the island. Typical souvenirs to take along with you are olive oil, sponges, wine and intensely hued sea shells.

Kos
Sunbathing, snorkeling and sailing are popular activities on this third largest island of the Dodecanese. Kos isn’t all that mountainous and made up of rolling hills making it a great island to be discovered by bike. Its coastline is over 100 kilometers long, therefore you can find a wide variety of beaches to choose from. And if you want to discover Turkey on the same trip, the popular town of Bodrum is only a ferry ride away!
