How Do You Travel With A DOG!?
Dogs & cars
Never leave your dog alone in the car when you have embarked on a road trip. It’s especially important to consider when the weather is hot! Make sure to give your dog lots of water to avoid dehydration.
Buckle up!
Make sure your dog is fastened with a special seat belt or otherwise restrained comfortably. This makes sure you and your dog are safe in case of a car crash.
Uh-oh, motion sickness!
Make sure your dog doesn’t get motion sickness easily. To help your dog acclimatize to the drive, find natural remedies, like ginger tablets, made for dogs! Make sure to stop often to give your dog a walk.
Seriously reconsider plane travel!
Plane travel is stressful for you, but a lot more stressful for your pet. So avoid it if possible. The conditions for pets in a plane are not good, so it is not recommended to take your dog with you on a week-long holiday.
Visit a vet!
Visit a vet before venturing out on a longer trip. Your dog might need a passport when travelling out of the country. It is also a good idea to chip your dog. Some countries want your dog to have certain vaccinations before letting him or her enter.
Do the homework!
Taking a bus or a train? Just make sure dogs are allowed on board. Some companies do not allow pets. Usually you need to buy an extra ticket for your furry friend, so make sure you do that beforehand.
Ask for accommodation advice!
A lot of hotels do not allow pets similarly to public transportation companies. So make sure beforehand that the hotel or other type of accommodation (like AirBnb) you are staying in allows pets and whether you are charged extra for their stay.
