A part of the famous movie “Gladiator” was filmed in Aït Ben Haddou, near Ouarzazate in Morocco. It is the town where Maximus is sold into slavery. Also, the director Ridley Scott returned to the same location to film scenes for “Kingdom of Heaven”.

In Tomb Rider, you can see Angelina Jolie visit those ancient temples fighting off goons and finding treasures. It looks like those temples are hidden in a deep jungle. Actually, you can visit those temples yourself. Angkor is a huge complex filled with numerous temples situated in Cambodia.

Hogwarts in real life!?
Hogwarts from Harry Potter was actually filmed in a few different locations around England. For example, Christ Church College and Cathedral in Oxford was used for its 16th-century stone staircase, and the design of its dining hall was the inspiration for Hogwarts’ Great Hall. Also, the Gloucester Cathedral was used for the school’s hallways in the first two films.

Much of the filming was done in the area of Queenstown, on New Zealand’s South Island. New Zealand is a popular location for filming adventure and fantasy movies so this comes as no surprise. A lot of the LOTR trilogy and The Narnia Chronicles was also filmed on the island.

The ‘Cannibal Island’ is filmed on Dominica. It’s officially the Commonwealth of Dominica, named by Christopher Columbus. Only 29 miles in length, and 16 miles wide, the island is in the Lesser Antilles region of the Caribbean. The island is not a popular tourist destination so if you are lucky to get there enjoy the off the beaten path experience.

The last part of the movie was partly filmed in Petra, Canyon of the Crescent Moon. The move made this location into a huge tourist attraction so you are sure to encounter long lines and crispy ticket prices. For a real movie fan or an archeology buff, this is still a location worth the visit.
